Eileen Casey Creations
Eileen is a designer from Ireland now living with her family in Upstate New York. Somehow she manages to squeeze in her design work around a rigorous Doctor Who and Coronation Street watching schedule, and makes it all look effortless. She loves designing with cables or beads - sometimes cables *and* beads.
She has been knitting forever and couldn’t imagine life without needles in hand. She was taught by her mum at age 5, and hasn't stopped since - it’s just like breathing to her. Past projects bring memories of events and times in her life back to her as vividly as certain smells do for others.
In 2005 she began working in a local yarn store and quickly became their in-house designer, writing customised patterns for clients while they waited. But it wasn’t until 2006 when she won 1st prize in a design contest run by Elann.com, that she realised that she was “a designer”, and that’s what she wanted to do.
She worked as a Knitwear Designer at About.com for their Knitting Guide Site from 2010 - 2011, before branching out with her own label, Eileen Casey Creations. She was the Knitting Instructor at her local Joann Fabrics from 2012 - 2015, devising and teaching all their knitting classes. She runs knitting demonstrations at the New York State Fair every year, and continues to give private lessons. Her designs have been published in books and magazines internationally - as well as through her website - and she has won numerous awards for her designs and knitting, including at The New York Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck and the New York State Fair.
