general info: This basic pattern hat is for all sizes and sexes. Boy and girl charts are included and the model facilitates easy adjustment to knit the tiniest or largest hat version. You can easily up or downscale the hat circumference by adding or subtracting (series) of 10 stitches, which is the repeat box of the various charts used. For my model I used double DK (holding two strands of DK weight – see gauge info). You can also easily adjust the length of the hat’s body by adding more rows for beanie style, as no shaping is needed for this part of the hat. Do you like cap mode? Than begin with the crown shaping right after working your choice of chart(s). Schematic drawing and specific instructions are included.
Skill: Easy ~ Intermediate: this pattern involves working in the round and stranded colourwork techniques.
Yarn: Double DK (holding two strands), like Rowan DK, pure wool superwash dk, 125m/50g (137yds/50g), MC: 250m/273yds, CC 140m/153yds for adult size and moderate beanie style (28cm/11 in). Hats of pictures 1 and 2 are knitted in Rowan DK.
Needles: 2 sizes circular needles: 4,5 mm (US 7) 40 cm (16 in) and 100 cm (40") or DPNs (when not using magic loop method for crown).
Gauges: Needle 4,5 mm (US 7): 24 sts x 28 rounds = 10 x 10 cm (4x4 in) in ribbing k1/p1. And needle 4,5 mm (US 7): 20 sts x 24 rounds = 10 x 10 cm (4x4 in) in stockinet in colourwork.
Materials: Stitch marker, tapestry needle.
