By day, I'm a social worker. I wrote my thesis on using knitting as a method to cope with trauma. I was featured on Knitty City's blog and did a talk there about the impact of knitting on our mental health and wellness.
My grandmother taught me to crochet in 2001 as I grieved the loss of my mother. I watched her hands and I learned, but I taught myself to read crochet patterns and chart since my grandmother crochet from memory. For many years all I made were crochet hats and other accessories and 1 year I decided to crochet a sweater (it was my first and only) and I also made baby items.
I'm a self-taught knitter; YouTube was my teacher. I learned around 2005 at the suggestion of a woman I never knew. My first project was a sweater and second, a cabled scarf...I jumped right in the deep end!
I've never participated in knit testing but I'm excited and willing to.
My favorite designers include, but not limited to: Norah Gaughan, Hannah Fettig, Susan B. Anderson, Lauren Riker, Nancy Ricci, Joji Locatelli, Amy Micaleff, Doris Chan, Ambah O'Brien, A Nordic Knitting Tale, Kate Davies, and Jared Flood. I really love a lot of designers for their vision and creativity so it really makes it hard to say who's a favorite.
I enjoy making cropped tops, sweaters, hats, scarves, cowls. I really only focused on hats and small items these last couple years because I was in grad school, but now I'm ready to resume sweater knitting.
